Description of Art Sale and How Art is Sold

Art Lottery Sale
The Pleasures of the Palettes event begins with a contemporary art sale. The art lottery sale is accompanied by appetizers and cocktail reception. Pleasures of the Palettes’ art is not sold by the traditional fundraising silent or live auctions. Instead, patrons have the opportunity to submit bids to purchase the art (one bid per art work).

Each year, participating artists are asked to provide two pieces of art for the sale. The following is a description of the price for each piece and how the art is sold.

First Art Piece Description
We ask the artist to donate a first art piece which has a market value in excess of $2,000. All of the first art pieces that are submitted by the artists will be sold at a set price at $2,000.

Second Art Piece Description
The second art piece submitted by the artist is priced by the artist, with the proceeds of the sale being divided equally between the artist and Casa.

How the Art is Sold
The format of the art sale is similar to that of a lottery drawing. Guests are given Intent to Purchase Slips for each piece of art. If the guest wishes to bid on the opportunity to purchase the piece, the guest will write their name on the Intent to Purchase Slip and place their slip into the assigned lottery box. Guests may submit one slip per piece for as many pieces as they wish, but may not submit more than one slip per piece to avoid loading the bidding in their favor.

After the art sale closes, lottery boxes are collected and the guests move on to the dinner phase of the event. During this time, volunteers begin processing lottery boxes, pulling one name per piece. Winners are then located by table assignment. In cases of multiple wins, guests may purchase all of the pieces that they won in the lottery or select among their winnings. If a guest declines a purchase, a volunteer then pulls a second name from the lottery box until a purchase is confirmed.
